Stephanie Gilmore is a professional surfer and a seven-time world champion. But with the help of her manager, who’s also her sister, she recently accomplished something even more important.
Stephanie has been surfing since the age of 17, but even before that, she looked up to the surfers in the sport. She loved watching the professional competitions but the problem was that there wasn’t a lot of female representation on television. This didn’t mean that there weren’t that many female surfers, it just meant that they weren’t being shown. Over the years, this changed and more female surfers began being seen on television. The only problem was that they weren’t being paid like the male surfers.
Until now.
This year, the World Surf League is committed to paying male and female surfers the same amount of money. It’s a small but important victory for equality. And it’s something that Stephanie, and a lot of other female surfers, are thankful for. It’s moves like this that help change the world for the better.
As Christians, we have to remember to thank God for the good things that happen to us. In fact, in Romans 15:13, it talks about God filling us with hope as we move throughout life. Hope is important because it pushes us to move forward in faith. Stephanie had no idea that things would be better for females, but she kept moving forward in hopes that it would.
