Over this past weekend, the All-England Club known as Wimbledon is about to crowned their 2017 champions in men’s and women’s tennis.
Roger Federer won his eighth Wimbledon title, and Garbiñe Muguruza won the Ladies’ Single by defeating Venus Williams.
Venus played in her ninth Wimbledon final. Only Martina Navratilova (12) and Chris Evert (10) have more among women in the Open Era. This was the first time that Venus has reached the finals since 2009, and the last time she won this tournament was in 2008. Since her last Wimbledon win, Venus has dealt with injuries, better competition, and a car accident.
A decade ago, no one thought Roger and Venus would still be playing for a championship, but yet, here they were. Federer won at age 35 and Venus has fought hard to get back at this level. Hardships come in life, but it’s up to us to persevere. And that’s why God says in Jeremiah 29:11 that He knows the plans He has for us. God’s plans for our future are beyond what anyone can dream; all we have to do is follow His direction.
