Lexi Smith, of Florence High School (NJ), did something peculiar in a regular season game; she stopped scoring goals. Apparently Lexi was on the verge of breaking a record of 46 goals in a season but she didn’t want to break it because the previous record holder was set by her aunt. That’s right! In 1992, Lexi’s aunt, Dianne Carey-Stranko, set the record and now serves as an assistant coach at Florence High.
“This is something so special that I will never do it again and I wanted her to be prepared for it,” Lexi said. “The only record I was really looking at was my aunt’s.”
That’s pretty impressive and touching that Lexi would do that to honor her coach. I don’t know if I would’ve done the same thing. If anything, I would’ve scored as many goals as possible and honored my family member by doing the best that I could. It’s just a really interesting way to show respect to someone. What do you guys think? What would you have done?
