Bill Burke, who is 69 years old, wants to do something spectacular. He wants to climb Mt. Everest, you know the tallest mountain in the world that’s 29, 305 feet? But not only does he want to climb it, he wants to do it twice!
“It’s going to be quite an epic journey,” says Burke.”It’s going to be a little bit like threading a needle, though, because everything has to fall into place just right. But that’s part of the fun — setting a goal and trying to achieve it, and at the same time being safe and smart, because I’m not out to get myself killed.”
One time while Burke was climbing Mt. Everest, he stopped 300 feet short of the top because he heard that bad weather was coming in. He felt bad about having to stop climbing but it turned out to be one of his best decisions because two other climbers who didn’t turn back ended up dying two days later. The bad weather consumed the climbers.
I think it’s awesome that even though this guy is closer to 100, he still wants to accomplish this amazing feat! It just goes to show you that no matter how old you are, it’s never too late to do something you love.
