Boston Celtics point guard, Kyrie Irving is having one of the best seasons of his career thus far; averaging 23 points and five assist per game for the East leading Celtics.
Most of his success had been credited to his healthy eating. “[I’ve] been on more of a plant-based diet, getting away from the animals and all that,” Kyrie told a broadcast team last month. “I had to get away from that. So many energy is up; my body feels amazing.”
Coaches and teammates have stated that Kyrie has had great energy all year. Some notable NBA players who decided to go to a plant-base diet this year include: Enes Kanter, Damien Lillard, Al Jefferson, and Jahlil Okafor.
The rise of plant-based diets in the NBA follows a worldwide uptick in meat-free meals. According to research firm GlobalData’s report, six percent of U.S. consumers identify as vegan, up from just one percent in 2014. In the United Kingdom, veganism rose by 350 percent from 2006 to 2016, largely from the country’s younger demographics.
Many people today are interested in food and fitness. In America, some diets are actually unhealthy and our lifestyles are overly inactive. More and more people are overweight, out of shape, and in poor health.
God says in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 to honor our body as a temple of the Holy Spirit. “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”
As we are in the midst of the holiday let’s be mindful with the food intake we are putting into our body, and focus on healthier eating. We must honor God in all aspects of our lives.
