The Blame Game, Chapter 7

When the tears had finally stopped flowing, Angelina slowly sat up and turned her head to look over at Alyssa, who had passed out from exhaustion. She looked at the clock; it now read 6:45pm, marking three hours since the incident had occurred. She sighed and then proceeded to get off her bed and move onto the floor, next to Alyssa. “Lyssa, get up. We need to think of a plan.” she whispered to her friend, giving her a light shake.

“A plan for what?” Alyssa groggily responded as she regained consciousness.

“You know, a plan for how we’re going to get out of this whole situation.” Angelina clarified.

“Are you seriously still trying to find a way out of things? I told you already, excuses won’t help us now.” Alyssa responded in disbelief.

“I can fix this, I just need a plan,” Angelina said as she stood up, beginning to pace. She paced back and forth, over and over again, desperately trying to think of a way out of things. But alas, no matter how hard she thought, no matter how many plans she tried to fabricate, she had nothing.

“Are you finished yet?” Alyssa asked some time later, tired of watching Angelina move across the room again and again. Angelina nodded and flopped back on her bed, letting out a loud sigh.

It was now Alyssa’s turn to stand. “Y’know, I might have an idea,” she said sheepishly. “But you might not like it.”

“I’m desperate right now, spill it,” Angelina groaned.

“I think that you know what it is, Angie. We’ve gotta-”

“Run away and start a new life under a fake name? I love it!” Angelina interjected.

“What, no? We need to pray and ask God for forgiveness. After that….I think we need to turn ourselves in.”

“What, no! We can’t do that, we’d go to jail!” Angelina exclaimed.

“True, but it’s the right thing to do.”

“B-but just think of how much trouble we’d be in!”

“Angelina, we’re in enough trouble already. There’s no other way out of this, just admit it,” Alyssa replied, unwilling to change her mind.

Angelina tried to protest once more, but she was suddenly interrupted by a noise. It was a long, steady, sound that pierced the air. It was getting closer and closer. Soon, the disturbance was followed by red and blue lights, able to be seen from inside Angelina’s bedroom. The two girls walked over to her window and pulled the blinds back, just wide enough so that they could see what was going on. Upon looking outside, both girls froze in fear.

Police cars had surrounded the house, and a few officers were on their way to the front door. When they had reached it, one of the officers lifted up their fist and forcefully knocked. He then demanded in a booming voice, “Angelina Jones, open up! We have a few questions for you relating to the recent destruction of Elijah Sanders’ car!” Alyssa turned away from the window to look at Angelina, who was now hyperventilating, more scared than she had ever been in her entire life.

“Hey, breathe!” she said, turning her terrified friend towards herself in an effort to calm her down. “Everything will be ok! We’re going to get out of this! But first, we NEED to do the right thing.”

After hearing her words, Angelina looked up at Alyssa and took a deep breath. She then took a brief silence to think things through, and it was only then when she finally realized what they needed to do. Ready to speak again, Angelina asked her friend in a very sure voice, “We need to do your plan, don’t we?”

Looking out the window once more, Alyssa responded warily, “Yeah, we do. Because honestly, I don’t think we have a choice.”

  1. Awesome story! I think Angelina is faking agreeing with Alyssa’s plan and is going to blame the broken car on Alyssa. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I think…
