Made For This, Series 1: Gymnastics, Chapter Four

Beep, beep! Beep, beep! Kimberly’s alarm clock crackled. Kim hushed the bothersome clock. How annoying this is! I’m stuck in bed all day. And today’s the competition! Angry feelings threatened to take over, but Kim breathed deeply. I’ll get through today, she thought between clenched teeth.

“Kimmie! Here’s your breakfast!” The twins announced cheerfully. Slamming the door shut behind them, they nearly threw the tray down on Kim’s bedside table.

“May I feed Dandy for you, Kimmie?” April asked.

No way, Kim thought. But she didn’t tell April that, though. “Sure, May, you can,” she said, paying April no mind.

“No, I asked!” April shouted.

May looked first at her twin ,then at Kim. “She did ask, Kimmie,” May said.

“Fine, but do not tap Dandy’s tank.” April grinned at her, then took the fish food. She shook it hard, trying to hear the food inside. Satisfied with hearing the food, she dumped a clump of fish food in the tank.

“Nooooo!” Kim screeched desperately. “Why would you throw it in?!”

April started crying. “I didn’t mean to, Kimmie! You’re always yelling at me!” She stomped out the room. May timidly followed behind.

Kim was fuming inside. God, if You care, I’m going through a lot right now. I need You to come into my life today and do something that would help — a lot. I am so mad at my sister right now, and I’m so mad that I’m missing the competition, I’m so mad about so many things. Please help me before I burst like a balloon.

Kim opened her phone. She decided she would text Esther, one of her gymnast friends.

Kim: Hey girl, what’s up?

Esther: I’m in the car right now. We’re almost there!😍

Kim: So lucky😞

Esther: Ikr?😣miss u

Kim: Ik, miss u too! For now this is me🤕literally

Esther: We’re arriving- wait, where r we?🤔 don’t see any building, or anything

Kim: Oh?

Esther: BRB, gotta figure this out

Kim: Okaay?

That’s weird, Kim thought. Strange, very strange.

“Kim!” Mom’s voice wafted through the doors. “Yeah, Mom?” Kim answered casually.

“Kim,” Mom said after getting inside the room, “i-it was a fake!”

“Mom, what was a fake?”

“It was a fake, Kim!”

“That’s what I’m asking you. What was a fake?”

Ding, dong! Kim’s notification sound answered the question. It was from Esther.

Esther: The website was a fake! Kim, there’s no competition!

Kim looked at Mom. A nod confirmed that Esther’s text was true. Wait, what? This is unreal. The website tricked us?!

“Kim,” Mom’s voice shook, “look at how God worked it all out! You’re not going to miss anything! It’s all good!”

Kim was crying tears of joy now. “Mom, it’s a miracle! Now I know that I was truly made for this!”

Epilogue: Kim’s gymnastics team did eventually find a true gymnastics competition that Kim was able to be on. Her team won first place for Grove City, then eventually they won second place on an Ohio gymnastics competition. Kim and her team were ecstatic when they heard they got second place. Kim always kept the memory of the fake website. After all, she learned a valuable lesson: she was made for this!
