From 1 To Thousands

Little Ethen skipped along the dusty road as the basket his mother packed swung by his side. He was going to hear one of the greatest speakers preach. He had heard a lot about Jesus but he had never heard him speaking. His 5 loaves and 2 fishes smelled good and fresh.

As he neared the place where Jesus was, he gazed in awe at how many people were there. Quickly he found a spot on the grass and placed his little basket next to him. He looked around him. He stared in amazement as people from all directions flocked to the large patch of grass and looked on eagerly to see what Jesus what say. Then Jesus started speaking. Little Ethen’s eyes were round and big as he soaked up every single word that He said.

“Wow”, thought Ethen. “He is such a good speaker!”

It started getting later in the day, and Jesus could see that the people were getting hungry. The disciples thought the best option was to just send them all home. But Jesus had another plan.

“Does anyone have any food here?”, He asked.

The little boy was about to start eating his bread, when he heard Jesus’s question. He looked at how many thousands of people there were. His 5 loaves and 2 tiny fishes wouldn’t make a difference. But still, at least a few people could eat, he figured.

Slowly he made his way to one of the disciples. He told him he had a little food. The disciple looked down at Ethen’s little basket doubtfully.

Slowly, he brought the boy to Jesus. “This little boy,” began the disciple,” has five little loaves and two small fishes. “But what can this little bit of food do?”

Jesus smiled down at the little lad. Taking the bread and fishes He broke them in half and lifting them up to heaven gave thanks for the food. Then he distributed it among the disciples. The disciples then distributed it among the crowd. Somehow, when Jesus reached into the basket there was always more bread and fishes! Ethen couldn’t believe his eyes! It was the most amazing miracle he had seen in his entire life. The bread and fishes kept coming, and coming, and coming! And after everyone had eaten there were still 12 baskets left! Ethen went home in amazement.
