I say I’d die for my best friend and for my brother.
I say I’d lay my life down for my family and my sister.
But what about the ones who hurt me, the ones who kill my heart?
God, You say to love my enemies, but don’t You see
What they’ve done to me?
You say to love my enemies like You loved me,
But that means dying.
And I don’t think that I could ever give my life for the ones who hurt me.
So, God, give me the power to love my enemies.
God, give me the power to love as You did and die for my own killer.
She calls me ugly.
He calls me stupid.
They’re killing my spirit, and they don’t even care!
I want so much to lash right back at them.
I want my eye for an eye
And don’t care if I go blind!
Because I’m the reason You had to die,
But You did it without complaining.
Lord, teach me to be like You,
Willing to die for my enemy.
In all my years upon this earth,
I’ve never once come close to loving my enemies like You loved me,
Yet you could die for me when I’m the reason you were on Calvary.
You died for Your own killer.
God, help me have the power to be willing to die for my enemies,
The power to be willing to die for my enemies.
