Dexter’s Gone!

Lisa snuggled deeper into her covers. Even though it was May in Colorado, there were always spring blizzards. She thought of her little puppy Dexter (Dex), who was sleeping in his doggy house. She started thinking about their coming vacation to Florida. They never got any tropical weather in Colorado, of course. “Ahh, she thought, we’ll have so much fun. “I think…..

Lisa awoke to smelling her mother’s good breakfast. She got up, stretched, and went through her morning routine. Then she ran downstairs to eat. As soon as she got downstairs, she knew something was wrong. Her parents were both wearing worried looks on their faces. She felt uneasy.

“Uhh, Mom? What’s wrong?,” she asked, her voice a little shaky.

“Honey, ” her Mom half whispered, Dex is gone.”

Lisa was confused. “What do you mean ‘gone’?,” she asked.

“He’s missing,” came the reply.

Gone, gone, gone.ย Dex had disappeared without a single trace.

Later that evening, they saw a hole by the fence where he had crawled out. They were puzzled. Dex had never before attempted to escape. Then they saw animal tracks. They were small, but some small animals could be dangerous. They guessed that Dex smelled this creature and escaped to play with it. They knew Dex was very curious. But Lisa was worried. “What if that animal hurt him?” inquired Lisa.

“Let’s just hope and pray that he’s ok,” answered Lisa’s dad.

“Can we pray right now?,” asked Lisa.

“Of course,” agreed her parents.

“Dear Jesus, Lisa began. “Please help Dex to come back to us. Please keep him safe. Please, Dear Lord. Amen.”

Several days had passed already, and still, there was no trace of little Dex.

Soon, it was June and time for their vacation. But Lisa wasn’t going anywhere without Dex. So they decided to stay home. “Oh,” she cried. “What will he eat and drink?”Where is he?”

Lisa’s friends also had lots of questions.

“Whaaaaat?”

“What do you mean?”

“Oh, no!”

“Poor Dex!”

“Hope he comes back soon.”

“Nooooo!”

“What if he’s hurt?”

Lisa’s best friend, Ella, who really liked Dex, almost fainted. “OH! He…..Oh! No! Oh, poor Dex! Oh, what happened?,” she cried. Everyone was devastated.

Finally, Lisa began to believe she would never, ever see Dex again.

But later that week…..

Mom was fixing supper. After they ate, Ella’s mother called Lisa’s mom to see if she wanted to take the girls to the park. Lisa’s mom agreed. They park was about a mile from their house.

As their moms walked around the path that circled around the playground, they stopped short as they heard the girls screaming. They looked to see why they were causing such a ruckus. Then they saw Dex running towards the girls. The girls were screaming,” DEX! DEX! YOU’RE BACK! OH DEXXXXX!!!!! YOU’RE BACK! OH, YOU’RE SO THIN! OH DEXXXXYYYYY!!!!!!”

Their mothers started running and yelling, too.

Later, at Lisa’s house…..

By the time Dex had been eaten 3 bowls of food and 4 bowls of water, his little sides were bulging. Then he lay down on his bed to relax. Lisa smiled and lovingly petted him gently.

“Oh, Mom! Let’s thank Jesus!,” Lisa exclaimed excitedly.

“Dear Jesus, she prayed excitedly, Thank You so much for bringing Dex back to us. Thank you for protecting and helping him. Thank you God, Amen!”

Hope you enjoyed!
