Ms. Brown
My boss stared at me, face inscrutable. I shifted my feet.
Finally, she spoke. “Nora, I’m going to have to ask you to take some time off. Sort out your problems at home, and then come back. In your present state, you could let frustration get the better of you, like you did today, or endanger client confidentiality.”
I dipped my head. “Yes, ma’am.”
“You say that Lydia knows where the twins are?”
I nodded. “My apologies. She kept pestering me and . . .”
She cut me off with a pointed look. “Please try to keep her from seeing them until we can conduct an interview with her. It would be too much of a shock to the twins, with them just moving in with the new foster family, and now this added . . . complication.”
I nodded again and turned to leave.
“And, Nora . . .”
I turned slightly.
“I expect you to have your issues sorted out by the time you return to work.” Her voice was sharp.
I gulped.
What’s going on with Ms.Brown? What’s the big deal about this Lydia person?
