Olive Branches, Chapter 26

By Alyssa4Jesus!

Sunday, September 13 – Avalon Jacobs

I am hanging out with my brother’s friends and I allow them to drag me off outside to the mall. Nicky and Zana are trying their best to pick out all the best outfits to dress me up in and My brother, Matthew and Carson are laughing at us. I glare at them and roll my eyes.

“This would be so cute on you!” Nicky shouted.

“No, I’d look like an emo girl,” I said, shaking my head. They looked at each other and Nicky carefully placed the dress back on the rack. I knew what they were thinking.

“How about this, pretty cute right?” Zana said.

“For the love of God I’m not 5 years old!” I shouted.

“You’re right. Find a bigger size,” Nicky said.

“NICKY!” I shouted.

“Alright, Alright,” she said laughing.

I turned around my head and saw a very familiar face. Was that Thad from school? Oh no no no no no. But wait, who’s that with him? Why does she look a bit fami- anyways…I don’t really care right now because I’ve got to go.

“Guys, let’s leave,” I said, dragging them out of the mall.

“What’s wrong?” they asked.

“I don’t wanna be seen by the biggest jerk in my class,” I said, rolling my eyes. “Thaddeus Goodwin,” I said.

“What? Do you like him?” Zana teased.

“What? NO! He’s the biggest Jerk ever. He and Zane are so…UGH!” I complained.

“Thaddeus and Ava sitting in a-” Nicky started but I gave her a death glare.

“Guys, stop. She doesn’t like him plus, he seems to have a girlfriend so lay off her,” Carson said.

“Ooouuu, when did you start picking up for…”

“GUYS LET’S GO!” I screamed. I’m pretty sure he heard me because he looked up in my direction.

“Alright! Alright, let’s go,” she said. We walked a bit and it was a never ending saga between Matthew and my brother about how to impress a girl and Nicky and Zana telling them to not bother with it cause it won’t work out. Carson and I stopped walking and allowed them to walk ahead of us complaining.

“You didn’t seem to enjoy that little shopping spree,” he said. I shook my head.

“It wasn’t tha- WOAH!” I said, tripping over a rock.

“YAH! Careful!” Carson said, helping me up. “You know, you’re a very pretty girl, you know. Why wear black all the time? Why not like burgundy or dark blue? I think it would really bring out your eyes. You need a bit more confidence in yourself Ava. You’re so talented and amazing, and I’ve only known you for like a few days. I hope you’ll see those traits in yourself as well, one day or another,” he said, his hand still on my cheek. He smiled at me and instantly my eyes opened wide. It was HIS smile. It was HIS EXACT smile. Why did he have the exact smile as my ex-boyfriend Mark?

I ran. I ran faster than I ever had in my life. I ran right home and ran upstairs. I turned around and saw a beautiful picture. It was my mother. She was so beautiful. She was young and hanging out with my father. They both looked happy. Why did she have to go? Why did Mark have to leave me as well? Why are people always leaving me? What if I become friends with D.K or Hannah or Mae or Nicky or Zana or Carson or Matthew and become attached, then, as usual, get rejected? What if it’s my aunt next? What if it’s dad or my brother next?

Just then, notifications popped up on my phone.

“Something wrong sis? You just ran away?”

-Brother_jams

“Was it something I said? I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

-Bubby_fresh_Donuts

“Ava Wava Dava? What’s wrong?”

-Matt_Matt_Blues

“Ava? You okay sweetie?”

-Nicky_Manjelo`_Bae

“Avalonaaaa? What’s up sis?”

_ItzzzzzZanaWana_

“I can’t! I just can’t!” I cried. “I can’t open up yet! I can’t I can’t I CAN’T! Nicky and Zana are so sweet! Matt is so kind and fun, Carson is very caring and my brother is the greatest person but I JUST CAN’T!” I cried.

This was my life. The life of a teen who just fears attachment and love.
