Monday, September 7 – Timothy Macdonald
As I walk down the hall, I spot my brother waiting for me.
“How was it, bro?” I ask.
“Pretty good.”
Guess what, do you think we should meet the students?”
“Haha,” Cole says. “I’m thinking you have your eyes on one of the girls, hehehe”
I shove him slightly, laughing as I do so, however. “Stop iiiit, Cole,” I laugh.
“I know you’re up to something!!!” he teases.
“Haha, I guess so.”
So we chat until we get to the cafeteria.
“Hey, look, Cole, there’s one guy over there, sitting by himself. I’ll go talk with him.”
“Ok. Just don’t do anything crazyyyy,” he teases.
“Ha, ha, very funny,” I retort.
After getting my food, I sit down at table #11. As we talk for a while, I learn that his name is Omari.
“So — anything interesting you experienced?” I ask.
“Nah, not really.”
“Maybe friends?”
“Well, ummm, —-”
“Yeah, I guess it’s kind of, uh, unnerving? to meet new friends.”
“Yeah, it – kinda is. . .”
“Well, maybe I’ll tell you about myself,” I say.
“Ok! For one thing, I’m thinking that you go to the gym.”
“Well, yeah, I guess it is kinda obvious that I go to the gym,” I laugh.
“Ya know, with you looking so great, you should maybe have a crush?”
“Uhh, yeah, I guess maybe that girl with dark curls or the copper haired one.”
“Their names are Maelynn and D.K.,” he informs. “However, I think Zaney-Waney is crushing D.K.,” he laughs.
“Oh, yeah?” I laugh as well. “He’d better be careful, ‘cuz I’m hearing rumors that D.K. is getting into Taekwondo.”
“Meh,” he sputters, “Zane had better think twice about messing up with YOU.”
“Well, yeah, I guess.” I look down at my arms. A few years of messing around in the gym had sure made a big difference!
“Well, I think you should come with me to the gym after school,” I invite
“Cool! Sounds great!”
Well, I go outside and start just randomly doing exercises. “Maybe I want to impress Mae? Am I feeling that I want to crush on her?” is the question that keeps revolving in my mind as I do push-ups. I get up and walk over to a log near the playground and take out my phone. Dad had sent me a text: How r u doing? I quickly thumb a message back: Pretty good, may b trying 2 impres someone 😎. The reply comes: Ok. just don’t get in trouble 😋.
Huh. So that’s what he is thinking. Well, he is a great dad as far as most things go. Over in a clear space I see two girls. They haven’t noticed me, so I can calmly observe what they were doing. One of them has dark-brown hair and the other has copper-coloured hair. Instantly the thought flashes into my mind: D.K. and Maelynn.
Well, Mae looks better to me with her dark-brown curls, so I think I’m settling the question: Mae is “the” deal. But seriously, I have to think for a while. Suddenly, a buzzer rings. I quickly stash my phone in my pocket and walk quickly towards the building. It’s the second block, and I think: “Oh, great, now I have to see her in class. But on the bright side, I think she’s noticed me right now. But again on the bad side, what a laugh my brother will have at me later.”
As I walk down the hall I think: “Maybe I should just forget this for a while. Yeah, that’s what I’ll do; just try to act like nothing’s wrong and it will be alright. . .”
