Kelly was
exhausted when she went to bed that night. When she woke up, it was already 11:00
AM. “Oh no!” She pulled on her clothes and rushed to the shop. “I’m so sorry I’m
late! I…” Kelly trailed off. She noticed that no one was in Proctor’s Grocery
except her boss and his niece, Pam. “What’s going on? Where’s everyone?” “Well, you didn’t check your email, did you?”
Pam asked flipping her hair. “No, why?” Kelly asked, confused. Her boss cleared his throat. “I’m very sorry.
The grocery was in worse trouble than I had thought. You were an amazing
employee and I’ll gladly write a recommendation for you.” He said, looking
uncomfortable. “What do you mean?” Kelly asked. Surely he couldn’t mean… “What
he means, dummy, is that you’re fired.” Pam said with a smirk. “My dad’s is
buying this property and he is going to completely renovate it and turn it into
a law firm.” Kelly staggered backward. Was this real? No, it couldn’t be. But
the pain in her gut made it clear that it wasn’t a dream.
