1 Corinthians 10:31 – Derek Jeter

The New York Yankees recently held a ceremony to retire the number of their legendary shortstop Derek Jeter.

What an awesome feeling that must’ve been. Derek’s nicknamed “The Captain,” and for good reason. He’s played more games and more seasons then any other Yankee. He also has been a captain for the Yankees longer than any other Captain.  He’s definitely an example of a true professional. He led by example, never gave up and stood by his teammates no matter the situation.

All of that said, I’ve read that Derek is still involved in the game. But now, as a manager of a sports news website and an owner – talk about evolving! When I think of guys I’d want to play for he definitely is at the top of the list.  Imagine playing for someone as dedicated as Derek Jeter; I’m sure that’d make me want to step my game up and be better every single day.

No matter the game or task Derek showed up and did his best. 1st Corinthians 10:31 encourages us to do exactly the same. Whether or not you excel and become a star like Derek, you’ll still be pleasing God.  So moving forward let’s dedicate ourselves fully to whatever task we have in front of us.
