Sometimes success can bring a lack of focus, so how is Steelers coach, Mike Tomlin helping his team regain their focus? Read on to find out.
The last time the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have won six Super Bowls, lost their first four games of a season, it was 1968. This means that is has been 45 years since they’ve started that badly. As you can imagine, Coach Tomlin isn’t particularly happy about this, and so in efforts to stop the bleeding, he has outlawed relaxing games of pool, ping-pong, and shuffleboard. Tomlin hopes this will help everyone start taking the losses more seriously. By taking away the fun, social games, the players will be forced to concentrate more on the real game; the one they are being paid for. We’ll see if the method pays off in their next game.
I think what coach Tomlin is doing is awesome. Sometimes when things are going good, we tend to forget to do the small things that initially helped us succeed. We may be able to go a game or two without doing those necessary things, but after awhile, bad habits will catch up. The only way to get out of this slump is take away all the distractions and focus on the game itself.
As you grow older, you’ll start to notice little things that will try and distract you from you quality time with God. Just like in sports, you may be able to get away with it for a short period of time, but eventually, bad habits will catch up with you. Although it’s hard to stay consistent, make the extra effort. It pays off in the long run.
Happy Sabbath!
