This week I learned that doing things my way in baseball is painful. Very painful.
I have never played a game of baseball in my life. This week, I went out to baseball practice with some of my student athletes. The first thing we did was warm up our arms by throwing and catching the ball. Simple enough, right? Wrong! I had the misfortune of catching the ball with the palm of the glove rather than the net part (The part between the index finger and the thumb). For those of you who play baseball or softball, you realize how painful it can be to catch a fastball with the palm of the glove. My hand was stinging for at least an hour.
The second thing I did was practice hitting. To make a long story short, I was holding the bat incorrectly so when I swung and hit the ball, there was a stinging sensation coming through the bat and into my hands. My coaches let me know that whenever the bat zings you, you’re hitting incorrectly.
It made me stop and think about the zings that God sends us when we’re doing things incorrectly. When you get those zings, do you ignore it and keep doing things your way or do you pay attention and try to do things the right way? I personally don’t like getting zinged so from now on, I’m just going to do things the correct way.
Happy Sabbath!
