What happens when people found out you lied?
I’m sure many of you have heard about Manti Te’o by now. The reports say that he made up a story about having a girlfriend. Not a big deal, right? Ah, but the tangled web thickens. Te’o then goes on to describe how his “girlfriend” was tragically killed and that this was his motivation all season. This story has become a big deal because Te’o was up for the coveted Heisman Trophy award. Unfortunately, now he’s been interviewed dozens of times and asked by many reporters if he lied or not. Te’o still maintains his innocence but no one can prove whether or not he made the lie up himself. Many believe that Te’o made up this story to make himself a greater candidate for the Heisman Trophy.
We’ve all lied before. The trick is to stop yourself from lying and just tell the truth. I don’t know whether or not Te’o is lying but God does. He knows our hearts. Within the sports world, it’s very easy to get caught up in the game and cheat. In moments like those, take a deep breath and relax and remember; it’s just a game.
I’m in Texas this week at Southwestern Adventist University. If you’re down here as well, don’t be shy, come say “hi!” 🙂
