Drillbit Taylor

Rated: PG-13
Release Date: 3/21/2008
Running Time: 1 hour, 42 minutes
Three unpopular kids hire a low-cost bodyguard to protect them from a school bully. Unknown to the kids, their “bodyguard” is actually a homeless con artist whose unusual methods of protection are motivated by something besides the boys’ well-being.
What I liked about this movie:
Nada. Zilch. Zippo.
To give a fair review, I watched Drillbit Taylor from beginning to end in search of something positive to report. I hoped to find an example of real friendship, a good role model or maybe a moment of unpoisoned humor. Unfortunately, I didn’t find anything. Watching this movie was like soaking my brain in raw sewage for 102 minutes.
What concerned me about this movie:
Everything. All of it. The whole enchilada.
It’s obvious by looking at the 10 Commandments (Exodus 20:3-17) that God values the idea of respect—for Him and for each other. Drillbit Taylor is an example of a situation where respect doesn’t exist. Listening to kids disrepecting their parents, parents not valuing kids, teachers and authority refusing to create a place where respect is practiced, kids disrespecting each other, kids and adults using God’s name in swearing and making disrespectful jokes about God . . . well, for a Christian it was like listening to someone scrape their fingernails down the full length of a chalkboard.
The language in this movie was pretty filthy. The swearing began in the very first conversation of the movie and continued all the way through.
There were quite a few extended scenes of violence. I think maybe it was supposed to be funny, but watching people get punched in the stomach repeatedly, get their pants pulled down in public, or get chased by speeding cars isn’t really my idea of comedy.
There were also a couple of outdoor shower scenes with nudity in them.
While I don’t usually make recommendations for whether or not you should see a movie (that’s for you and your parents to decide!), this time I strongly suggest you save your babysitting money for something besides watching Drillbit Taylor. Either way, here are some questions to think about:
1. The movie Drillbit Taylor was rated PG-13 in part for bad language. Did you know that in the Bible, James says cursing is like salt water? Find out why in James 3:9-12.
2. Bullying is a real problem. Have you ever been picked on by a bully at school, in your neighborhood, or online? What are some ways to avoid being a victim? Is there a difference between teasing and bullying? Have you ever been accused of being a bully?
3. Do you think God has a sense of humor? If no, why not? If yes, what kinds of things do you think are funny to God?

Hi Melaine. I dont think that you should be so judgemental about movies, music, etc. Eventually adventist kids will have to face reality and realize whats out there and base their decsions on what they stand for. You have no reason to criticize someones work. Now you have pretty much brainwashed these kids into what you think and want them to be and thats not cool. Even though this movie does not look that great, you should not try and shelter people from the world and its imperfections.

The actors Vince Vauchn, Will Ferell, Adam Sandler, Owen wilson, are always in movies that are not very appropreiate. I cant even see why there was a question in your mind about how bad it was

Im sorry, but this review didnt help me at all. I expected criticism about everything, including the plot, and possibly spoilers. Nothing of that was filled in, not even a little background of the characters. Who/What is Drillbit Taylor? Whats the point of the whole movie? All you did was trash it, while not doing anything as far as reviewing the story. Review of your review: 0.

ROFL i loved this movie. but yea, i agree with ava, that someday kids will have to see the imperfections of the world. but what i think is that the bullying in that movie was a little over exagerated. nothing that bad ever happens lol

The movie wasn't all that bad in my opnion.
There was a part when Drillbit says if all else fails, love your enemy, kind of thing. We're supposed to do that right?
The movie does have a base of sacrifice for in the end, Drillbit risked himself to protect the 3 kids.
Also there is a minor bit of someone stnding up for someone else.
The main part s that God can send angels in any shape or form to help us. So in all Drillbit Taylor isn't really that bad.

I want to make a comment on Ava's comment. First of all, I agree with you when you say that SDA kids/teens will one day have to face reality in life, that there is cussing and swearing, drugs and alcohol, and of course, lust and nudity. We need to be aware that these things are going on, but that doesn't mean we should dwell on them. Watching movies, listening to music, and playing video games with innaporopriate content can plant seeds in our minds that these things might be acceptable, and we learn to look at these issues as "normal" or wrong, but not awful. If we call anything brainwashing, I would think that it should be this. Phillipians 4:8 tells us: "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." We know this world has imperfecti
