How do you think Moses ended up knowing that he was a Hebrew?

His mother raised him until he was twelve. Makes sense for him to know.

I read Patriarchs and Prophets and it says that angels told Moses that he was going to free the slaves and Moses thought he would have an army and overthrow the Egyptians but I don't think the angels told him that he was a Hebrew.

Actually, I did some research and apparently those "some scholars" haven't read the Bible. Because in Acts 7:20-21 is says that his mother only nourished him for three months and the Pharaoh's daughter nourished Moses from then on. But remember Jochebed had him hidden in her house for 3 months before he was put into the Nile. Afterwards the princess found him, and Miriam brought Jochebed to be his nurse. The Bible doesn't specify that after he was weaned, Jochebed was sent back home. |

So, to start, you have understand the setting. When was Moses a child anyways? Now, if memory serves right, the Exodus would've occurred at 2nd Century BC. (I think it's 1900ish BC; I'll have to check). Also, the Israelites were in bondage. This means that the majority of the people would have had a strong connection with their history, their ancestry, their culture, and their tradition (which there were practically none). Now, don't get me wrong, but there were those people that adopted the culture and traditions of their oppressors (in this case, Egypt). But with the sense of resistance that the Israelites had, they remained steadfast to God. That being said, the Israelites would've started teaching their children the ways of God, their ancestry, etc. at a very young age. The answer is quite simple..., IF you understand Hebrew culture. What is it? |
