I think the church system could use some changing... or a lot. But I think the main problem with adolescents leaving the church is that society's changing. Society's becoming ever more secular and individualistic. The media is becoming ever more sensational, sexual and violent. People are being convinced that things are always getting better; that humans are capable of infinite economic, social and moral progress. "Who needs God? God is dead. God is boring. All God does is tell me what I can't do—that what I feel like doing is wrong. God hinders progress." Human nature doesn't change, but society is changing to make our sinful human nature seem natural. It's not as God intended. So as the church tries (fighting a losing battle) to adhere to the life God intended for us, it becomes ever more estranged from society. This causes young people—who are more strongly influenced by society than the church, thanks largely to the media—to want to leave. At least, that's the way I see it.
